Summer Program

"Han-style Tour: Let's go to Korea!" is a student-centered STARTALK Korean Language Summer Program designed for students to learn about Korean language and culture through thematic unit focusing on Korean food, Hansik (new students) and Korean traditional clothing, Hanbok (returning students) and 21st century skills such as collaboration, technology, critical thinking and problem solving in a dynamic environment. New students will learn about Korean staple dishes, nutritions, seasonal Korean food, Korean regional cuisine, recipes, and how Korean food is

changing in the global world. Returning students will learn about main components of Hanbok, accessaries, and how Hanbok has been changing over the years. Culture, content, and language will come to life through real-world experiences in:

• Korean arts and crafts

• Music

• Cooking

• K-pop dance or Tae Kwon Do

• Trips to a Korean restaurant and a Korean mart/a Hanbok store

Success will be highlighted through:

• E-portfolios

• interactive exhibitions

To promote a continuing appreciation for the Korean culture and on-going Korean language development, post-program activities include:

• the 2020 Lunar New Year Celebration at Korean School for Global Leaders

• the 2020 End-of-year Celebration at Korean School for Global Leaders

• complimentary StudyKorean digital library account for the 2019-20 academic year

The five-week intensive program will be offered Monday-Thursday from 9:00a.m. to 2:30 p.m., July 8 to August 8, 2019 at 4015 149th St, Flushing, NY 11354 (Namu Church Building).

Space is limited to 15 novice (beginner) and 15 intermediate new participants, 10 returning participants in grades 2 through 4.

STARTALK project allows Korean School for Global Leaders to provide this summer program FREE of charge to all enrolled students. STARTALK project is funded by the National Security Agency and administered by the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland to increase the number of U.S. citizens learning, speaking, and teaching critical need foreign languages.

"Han-style Tour: Let's go to Korea!"는 학생 중심의 스타토크 한국어 여름 프로그램입니다. 한식과 한복에 대한 주제 중심 수업을 통해 한국어와 한국 문화를 공부하면서 다양하고 활발한 환경에서 21세기 핵심 역량인 협력, 테크놀로지, 비판적 사고, 문제해결 능력을 키우게 됩니다. 새로 프로그램에 참가하는 학생들은 기본적인 한식 메뉴와, 영양소, 계절음식, 지역별 대표 음식, 요리법, 한식의 변천사 등을 배우고, 작년에 이어 올해도 프로그램에 참가하는 학생들은 한복의 기본 구성, 장신구, 한복의 변천사 등에 대해서 배울 것 입니다. 미술, 음악, 요리, 케이팝 댄스와 태권도, 한국 마트/한복점과 식당 트립을 통해서 실제 생활에서 배운 내용들을 적용하는 기회를 갖게 됩니다.

학생들은 프로그램기간 동안 e-포트폴리오를 만들고 전시/발표회를 함으로서 성공적으로 프로그램을 마쳤다는 것을 확인하게 될 것입니다.

여름 프로그램이 끝난 후에도 2020년 리더스 한국학교 설날잔치와 발표회에 초대되고 스터디 코리안 전자 도서관 아이디를 받아서 계속 한국 문화와 한국어를 공부할 수 있는 기회가 주어집니다.

리더스 한국학교의 스타토크 여름 한국어 프로그램은 2019년 7월 8일부터 8월 8일까지 5주동안 월요일부터 목요일, 오전 9시부터 오후 2시반까지 4015 149th St, Flushing, NY 11354에 위치한 나무교회 건물에서 진행됩니다. STARTALK 경험이 없는 학생 30명 (초급반 15명, 중급반 15명)과 STARTALK 경험이 있는 학생 10명, 3반으로 구성, 총 40명의 학생을 모집하며 현 2~4학년 학생만 참여 가능합니다.

리더스 한국학교의 여름 한국어 프로그램은 미국 시민들의 외국어 학습, 말하기, 교수법 향상을 위하여 미국 국가 안전국의 지원을 받아 메릴랜드 대학교의 국립 외국어 센터에서 운영하는 스타토크 프로젝트의 일환으로 진행되며 모든 참가학생은 무료로 수업을 듣게 됩니다.
